The teachers and staff at Harney strive to give each of our students a successful elementary school education. However, as we are all aware, excellent education costs money. One of the main sources of funding that Harney teachers rely on is the funds they receive from our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Our PTO’s primary fundraiser is an annual benefit auction and dinner.
Last year’s auction was a great success, bringing in nearly $34,000 to begin an expansive Outdoor Enhancement Project at Harney. This project is just getting underway, our plan is to include Harney students, families and staff in the design and development of an outdoor space that will benefit our entire community, including nature play areas, outdoor classrooms and a walking path (more details can be found at http://www.harneypto.org/outdoor-learning-space).
We will be using the proceeds from this year’s auction to promote a continuing mission of Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds at Harney. Research has demonstrated that physical activity increases academic performance and improves behavior. By supporting our students overall well being, we will open doors to new opportunities and experiences, which can ultimately serve as a pathway out of poverty.
Please help us create an outdoor learning and activity space that will give Harney students the opportunity to build Healthy Bodies which will lead to Healthy Minds!
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, March 19th at the Heathman Lodge and will include both a silent and live auction. We would greatly appreciate any donation that you can offer. It is our goal to have all auction items in hand and ready to organize for the event by February 1, 2016. In acknowledgment of your generosity, we will recognize your contribution in our PTO monthly newsletter, as well as during the auction itself.
